Nunoo-Mensah to stage one-man demo against ills in Ghana

A former Chief of Defence Staff, Brigadier General Nunoo-Mensah, has said he would stage a one-man protest soon if nothing is done by authorities to correct the ills in the country.

He explained that if the youth were all employed in one way or the other, they would be unavailable for recruitment into vigilante groups affiliated to political parties.

Mr Nunoo-Mensah was speaking in relation to the shootings that occurred during a meeting between some national executives and regional executives of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in Kumasi on Monday, 18 February 2019 which led to the death of one person.

"Young men and women in Ghana are infuriated because the leaders are no more thinking about them. The recent political violence in the country is a symptom of frustration and anger among the youth,” he told Kwame Tutu, host of CTV Breakfast Show "Ghana Kasa" on Wednesday, 20 February 2019.

He added: "I've never shunned away from telling the truth, Ghanaians are wonderful people but what we are lacking in Ghana is good quality leadership to create a good country for ourselves, they have all lost their sense of patriotism.”

He said if things remain unchanged, he would stage a one-man demonstration against the ills in society.

“Ghana should go beyond the mayhem which occurred during the by-election and the recent shooting at the NDC regional office in the Ashanti Regional Capital, Kumasi. We need to wake up, all of us need to wake up or else very soon you will see me with placards demonstrating in Ghana," he said.
