Scores of houses in six communities have been torched following the shooting incident at Naweik, a farming community, on Friday, 15 March 2019.
District Chief Executive (DCE) for Chereponi, Tahidu Abdul Razak, who confirmed the attacks said on Saturday that: “I have 75 military men on the ground [with] about 40 police officers, to maintain law and order”.
At least four people died and over 150 homes were torched during similar clashes in January 2019. Hundreds of people in the communities had to flee to neighbouring Togo during the bloody encounter.
The Northern Regional Security Council held a peace summit for both ethnic groups on Thursday, 10 January 2019 and a committee was set up to investigate the incident by the Minister for the Interior.
