The members of the Institution of Engineering and Technology Ghana (IET Ghana) have entreated President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo to constitute a Governing Board for the Engineering Council of Ghana (ECGh) without further delay after failing to do so in two years.
The Board is the sole regulator of all engineering service providers including contractors in Ghana.
According to IET Ghana, the deliberate feet-dragging attitude of the government to constitute the Board after dissolving the last one takes away the power to grant licences to professional engineers.
In an interview with Class91.3FM’s Jerry Akornor, the Executive Secretary of IET Ghana, Mr Emmanuel Wilberforce Kwaku Donkor, called on the presidency to take action immediately.
“Since 2017, we've already nominated people to form the Board and I don’t know what is holding back the government from forming the Board,” he said.
