Schools In Wenchi Municipality Cries For Furniture And Infrastructure

Some schoolchildren in public schools in the Wenchi Municipality of the Bono Region are forced to learn under trees.

The Municipality has a total of 82 KG,80 primary,70 Junior High and 4 Senior High Schools.

The Municipal Director of the Ghana Education Service in the Wenchi Municipality Mrs. Effua A. D. Amuah made the revealations during her situational report on education when the Deputy Minister for Local Government and Rural Development in charge of rural economic development and Agriculture, Hon Collins Ntim working visits to Wenchi to assessed the extent of progress in the implementation of government policies and programmes.


During her presentation,She said all schools in the Municipality are faced with challenges ranging from lack of furniture to poor infrastructure.

According to her in spite of the government's resolve to ensure that all children of school going age were enrolled, most schoolchildren were studying under trees especially those in KG who are the vulnerable ones.


Mrs. Effua A. D . Amuah also highlighted some infrastructure needs in the Wenchi Municipality,


KG - 642 round tables and 3,190 chairs, classrooms- 2 unit block for KG 55, primary- 6 unit classroom block 38, 6 seater toilet facility with changing room 20, 12 bedroom unit with toilet, kitchen and bath- 20, 10 bole hole, Junior High schools in the Wenchi Municipality also needs 1,511 mono desks while SHS needs 1,311 mono desks.

The Directorate is faced with numerous challenges but the most pressing ones are, infestation of bed bugs in our Senior High Schools needing immediate attention, inadequate infrastructure in our Senior High Schools, lack of means of transport such as cars and motor bikes for monitoring and supervision purposes, delay in the supply of resources like teaching and learning materials, inadequate funds and untimely release of funds, inadequate teachers quarters especially in the hard to reach communities and last but not least inadequate classroom accomodation and sanitary facilities in our basic schools.

She therefore appealed to government,non- governmental organizations ( NGOs) and benevolent organizations to assist the education Directorate in the Wenchi Municipal Assembly to meet their needs.
