Parliament of Ghana has approved a budgetary allocation of over 30 million euros within the 2020 financial year to commence the construction of a portable water infrastructure project in Wenchi and its surrounding communities.
The 32.7 million euros is being funded by the Belgium Bank through the Ghana Government.
The object of the loan, according to report of finance committee released on Friday,is to finance the design, construction and commissioning of a potable water infrastructure project in Wenchi in the Bono Region.
About 12 communities expected to benefit from the water project include Nkonsia, Koase, Asuano,Beposo,Yooyoano, Droboso, Wenchi township, Akrobi, Gensoso,Awisa, Wurompo and Akete.
The project when completed will supply about 11,100 cubic litres of water per a day to the people of Wenchi.
The Member of Parliament for Wenchi Constituency who is also the Minister of Planning, Professor George Gyan Baffour disclosed to Royals News in a telephone interview on Friday.
According to Honourable Professor George Gyan Baffour the project when commenced is expected to be completed within 30 months.
The proposed Wenchi water project would be the single biggest project in Wenchi since independence the Minister explained.
Its successful implementation is expected to be a significant boost to the water for all by 2030 agenda of the Ghana Government.
Professor George Gyan Baffour also added that the 32.7 million euros water facility is expected to meet the increasing water demand for Wenchi and its surrounding areas up to the year 2040 planning horizon.
