The embattled former New Patriotic Party (NPP) Member of Parliament (MP) for Mampong, Francis Addai Nimoh, has said that he has not relinquished his presidential ambition which saw him contest for the NPP’s presidential candidacy position in 2015 with the likes of Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, now President of the Republic, and several others.
He said it is only a matter of time as he is lacing up his boots to compete for same position when the right opportunity presents itself.
“I still have presidential ambition. When the time comes, I will avail myself”, he noted when asked if he still has presidential ambition.
Interacting with Akwasi Nsiah on Anopa Kasapa on Accra-based Kasapa 102.5 FM, Mr. Addai Nimoh, who led the Mampong constituency for two terms on the ticket of the NPP, said he is motivated by his leadership style which saw him do a lot of things for his constituents.
His handiworks, he noted, have seen the same people who rejected him the 2016 primaries of the NPP, now yearning for his return. He described the period under which he served the people of Mampong as an “MP in the wilderness” since his party was in opposition.
“For eight years of being in the wilderness, I was able to do a lot of things for my people. Anyway, I was rejected by the same people who are now yearning for my return to lead them. That is why I told you that when you carry water and alcohol you will definitely know which one is heavier than the other. So, after comparing my style of leadership to others, maybe they’ve seen the clear distinction in terms of leadership qualities that I offered as MP in opposition at that time. As in opposition, they saw what I was able to do and have now, may be compared it to an MP in government”, he noted.
He added “In terms of governance, there was cordiality between my good self, traditional leaders, church leaders, and religious leaders among other groupings. I instituted free vacation classes in Mampong, an initiative which was later replicated by some MPs in their constituencies. I could organize free vacation classes for over 1,000 students to attend. In terms of minor infrastructure I used my Common Fund to finance – when you tour almost all the 43 communities in the constituency, I used my Common Fund to assist almost all the communities from school rehabilitation to sanitary facilities and health. In terms of education, I also supported many brilliant students but needy ones to pursue higher education with some graduating to become doctors, engineers and other professions who are now serving the country”.
Francis Addai Nimoh has filed nomination forms to contest the NPP parliamentary primaries for Mampong constituency again. The forms which was submitted at the party’s constituency office was rejected by the constituency executives, sparking an uproar which resulted in five persons sustaining severe injuries.
The national executives of the party who were saddened by such occurrence stepped in and calm nerves, requesting Addai Nimo to file his nomination at the National Headquarters of the party. The Ashanti Regional Executives of the party also moved to save the situation from getting out of hands and also offered Addai Nimo a chance to submit his nomination forms at the regional headquarters, a request he gladly honoured.
Mr. Addai Nimoh served the people of Mampong constituency as MP from January 7, 2013 to January 6, 2017.
He lost the party’s parliamentary primaries after a failed attempt to become the NPP’s Presidential candidate for the 2016 general elections.
