The Techiman Traditional Council as part of measures to combat the Corona Virus epidermic which has bedeviled the World has cancelled this year's Apoo Festival.
This according to the Council will help prevent avoidable spread of the disease which has already infected 6 persons in the country and still poses a very high risk of infection.
As the general public has been alerted by the World Health Organization to avoid public gatherings that could facilitate the spread of the disease, the Traditional Council Chaired by Oseadeayo Akumfi Ameyaw IV in consultation with the Holy Family Hospital in Techiman-Bono east Capital agreed to cancel this year's celebration.
The Apour Festival celebrated by the people of Techiman around this time of the year on the Akan calendar was supposed to have been initiated with a ritual called " Hyire ko " on Saturday 14th March,2020 followed by others until 27th of this month when the public would have joined in the celebration from Amanfom Sacred Reserve and end on the 14th April,2020.
But due to the aforementioned reason the Traditional Council has cancelled the festival which attracts people from across the country and overseas to witness and participate in the old age festival celebrated by the people to cleanse themselves and correct their mistakes and also find ways of developing the future.
Meanwhile, the ban on funerals and other specified activities as ensured every year is still in place until the period expires.
The maintenance of the ban on funerals according to the council would help to avoid people from gathering which they seek to prevent due to the epidermic.
