Freight forwarders bare teeth at Gov’t; demand suspension of UNIPASS

The Sekondi- Takoradi branch of the Ghana Institute of Freight Forwarders, are up in arms against the Akufo Addo-led administration asking it to suspend, with immediate effect the UNIPASS system, fraught with severe challenges.
The aggrieved freight forwarders want government to as a matter of urgency revert to the GCNET system of clearing goods at the various ports.
They warned that if the situation persists, they will have no option than to hit the streets in their numbers.
An Executive Member of the Institute of Freight Forwarders Paul Ato Bentil told Empire News’ Emmanuel Ohene-Gyan that the poor operationalisation of the system is seriously not only affecting their businesses, but also affecting the revenues government accrues from their operations.
After picketing at the Long Room of the Ghana Revenue Authority in Takoradi, the Freight Forwarders explained that the new system has proven more difficult to use than what was promised.
The UNIPASS, introduced by the Ghana Revenue Authority was to promote a one-stop-shop of all financial and transactional dealings by Freight forwarders through a well-integrated system, but unfortunately many have been the negative attributes to the system since it was introduced.
