Defeated Oda MP has accused chiefs in his Constituency of ganging up against him resulting in his defeat in the party’s recently held parliamentary primaries.
The Chairman of the Education Committee of Parliament consequently has lost his bid to return to the House in January 2021.
Speaking to the media Mr. Quaittoo disclosed that chiefs in his constituency have never hidden their dislike for him as a result of his tribe.
“There are several factors that come into play when you’re looking for a candidate to represent a group. One key factor is the tribal sentiment that played out in my area. I knew about it but I thought that the delegates would rise up above that but they didn’t and they have done it. I come from a small area Gyadem with only three polling stations. It is the only Abuakwa town within the constituency. Since 1992 nobody from the Kotoku land has been an MP before, they say now they want their own to represent them…they want a Kotoku person to be an MP and that is what they played and it worked out. So I accept their decision.”
“Even last four years, I know a number of chiefs that called some big men there and said from 1992 we have not had our own son representing us so we want one of our own to represent us. So they went for a search, the person they got to come and contest me to them wasn’t too good that’s why he lost. But this time this person was somewhat okay for them and the Kotoku people threw their weight behind him. If you look at what happened the number of people who came there their business people coming to support him. Of course, I’m alone. The chiefs played a role seriously…they won the seat. They took the seat from me they want their own to lead the constituency and that’s all,” Hon. Quaitoo added”
Meanwhile, the Minority in Parliament has charged investigative bodies to probe the opulence that characterized the NPP primaries.
