Kasoa ‘ritual murder’: Police stop angry residents from burning shrine at Amanase

 

The timely intervention of armed Police personnel dispatched from Suhum Friday thwarted an attempt by furious chiefs and residents of Amanase in the Ayensuano District of the Eastern region, from torching and destroying the shrine of the fetish priestess linked to the killing of an 11-year-old boy at Kasoa.

The Chiefs and People of Amanase clad in red and black dresses, armband and headgears mobilized in their numbers and stormed the compound of the shrine in protest.

However, police Personnel from Suhum upon intelligence rushed to the scene to surround the facility and negotiated with the chiefs to rescind their intended plans.

The acting Chief of Amanase Nana Addo Agyekum addressing the media issued a three-day ultimatum to the Police to brief the community whether or not the fetish priestess and others arrested are indeed connected to the crime else they will advise themselves.

We don’t want this community to be associated with crime so whether you are a Togolese , Akyem, Ga or Akuapem staying here all we expect from you is to live in harmony with the laws of the land. We have held on with our actions today but we are issuing a three -day ultimatum to the police to let us know how the fetish priest is connected to the Kasoa crime else we will advise ourselves,” the Chief said.

The Chief had earlier cautioned Okada riders in the community who have been picking clients from the roadside to the shrine to stop.

Some elders of the town revealed that the fetish priest refused on five different times to honour summon by the Chief to answer lingering questions about his operation.

Speaking to the media, some of the angry residents backed their Chief for a shutdown of the shrine.

According to them, the money ritual activities at the shrine has tarnished the image of the community and created fear.

 

Arrest

The Fetish Priestess was arrested Wednesday, April 7, 2021, by armed Police from Greater Accra Regional Police headquarters.

One other person at the shrine was picked also arrested.

The main suspect -Solomon Adjololo popularly known as Okomfo Rasta who is husband to the fetish priestess was later pickup.

Meanwhile, the Ofaakor District Magistrate Court on Tuesday remanded into police custody the two teenagers who allegedly killed the 11-year-old boy last Saturday at Coca Cola, near Lamptey Mills in Kasoa.

The accused persons are to reappear on April 20, 2021. The court was presided over by Her Worship, Mrs Rosemond Vera Ocloo.

The accused, Felix Nyarko, 15, and Nicholas Kini, 18, are alleged to have conspired to kill the Class Four pupil of the Maranatha School, Ishmael Mensah for money ritual.

The suspects had earlier revealed to police after their arrest that, a fetish priest directed them to bring human parts for ritual money that would make them rich overnight after taking the number on a Television.
