My sister didn’t commit suicide, she was killed – Family of JHS 3 student

The family of the late final year student of Miracles Junior High School at Barkoniaba in the Sunyani East municipality of the Bono region has dismissed claims that their daughter hanged herself.

The family believes that their daughter and sister was rather killed in the school.

Leticia Kyere Pinaman was found hanging at the school’s dining hall by her colleagues on MondayMay 17, 2021 around 7:30 pm. It’s unclear what led to the incident.

The Sunyani Police later deposited the body at the Sunyani Regional Hospital morgue for autopsy and preservation.

In an interview with Bonohene Baffuor Awuah on “Ghana Kasapa” on Kasapa FM/ Agoo TV, Potia Oforiwaa, the elder sister of the deceased stated that nothing at the crime scene suggested that the deceased hanged herself.

“As soon as my mother entered the dining hall where my sister is alleged to have hanged herself she shouted and said my daughter didn’t hang herself. She was killed. My sister was seen standing with a thing rope around her neck. There was no table or chair there for her to have stood on to hang herself and nobody can say that she hanged herself and then pushed the furniture. My sister was killed and hanged on the rope. The school authority says that my sister wrote a letter indicating that she was fed up with life but that is not true. If she did, she would have put it beside her. It was after my father went to the police station a day after the incident that the school authority claimed they had seen a suicide note. They claim they found the letter and a necklace in my sister’s book but we are SDA, we don’t put on a necklace or like jewelry.

Potia added: “When the body was taken to the hospital, the doctor said if indeed my sister hanged herself her tongue would have been protruding through clenched teeth or would have soiled herself but there was nothing like that. A look on her left arm showed a swollen red spot indicating that her blood had probably been sucked. The doctor is a witness to all that I’m saying. The school is circulating false information just to protect it. Rumours that she was pregnant is also false. She’s a very brilliant girl dedicated to her books at all times and the school can attest to this. She doesn’t even make female friends let alone have a boyfriend, she also doesn’t lack anything because we give her all that she needs. We seriously suspect the school has a hand in my sister’s death. Exactly a week before her death, my mother went to the school and had a heated argument with the school authority over an issue.”

Meanwhile, the Headmaster of the School, John Terkper has told Kasapa FM that the school is saddened by the unfortunate development and is cooperating with the police to investigate the matter.
