Wenchi Municipal Records 11 Fire Cases In 2019

The Divisional Fire Command of the Ghana National Fire Service in the Wenchi Municipality of the Brong Ahafo Region says 11 fire outbreaks have been recorded across the Municipality within 42 days in 2019.

Assistant Divisional Commander 1 Mr Oppong Kusi the Wenchi Divisional Fire Commander said. He put the cost of damage to property as of the period of 42 days at over GHS 120 million.

Mr Oppong Kusi said that out of the 11 cases 5 were domestic and 4 bushfires with 2 industrial cases.

A. D. O 1 Mr Oppong Kusi,who was speaking to Royals Fm ADEKYEYE MU NSEM Host Nana Anfreh Damanta in an interview on Tuesday February 12,2019 blamed the increasing spate of fire outbreaks in the Wenchi Municipality to the neglect of fire safety rules.

He mentioned group hunters ( Atwiye) as the main causes of bushfire outbreaks.

As part of measures to control fire outbreaks in the Wenchi Municipality, personnel of the service have been educating the public on fire safety as to protect lives and property on Royals Fm every Friday he added.

Mr Oppong Kusi reminded everybody that fire safety was a shared responsibility and when all stakeholders played their effective roles,fire disasters would significantly go down.

The Assistant Divisional Fire Commander 1 Mr Oppong Kusi therefore advised farmers to work with fire volunteers in their Communities to prevent bushfires.
