ADRA support 275 farmers with free cashew seedlings

The Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) has supported two hundred and seventy- five (275) new farmers with free cashew seedlings for cultivation in the Wenchi Municipality of Bono Region.

One thousand and ninety (1090) farmers have been registered under the project in the Municipality.

Eight hundred and sixteen (816) existing farmers have been supported with Cashew Agro metrics practices, like pruning, thinning and spraying.

In addition the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA)  has trained five hundred and seventy- two (572) cashew nuts collectors.

So far five hundred and fifty (550) acres of cashew farm has been cultivated.

These came to light when the Wenchi Municipal Chief Executive Hon Dr Prince Kwakye Afiriyie was delivering his sessional address at the First Ordinary Session of the Wenchi Municipal Assembly held on Friday June 28, 2019 at the Municipal Assembly Hall.

Dr Afiriyie said agriculture sector is key to the NPP Government in the area of sustainable Job creation, this according to him will serve as raw material base to feed our Local Industrialization Agenda.

Under the E- Agriculture,a total of five hundred and eighty five (585) farmers has been registered at which four hundred and eighty three (483) are males and one hundred and two (102) are females.

He said the Department of Agriculture has taken delivery of bags of Sorghum Beans and Rice yet to be distributed to farmers in the Municipality.

One hundred and nineteen (119) bags of maize were given to farmers through suppliers at a subsidized price Hon.  Prince Kwakye Afiriyie has said.

He further stated that government has also launched the Rearing For Food and Jobs policy in Wa under the theme "Self- Sufficiency in Meat Production a Must" of which Wenchi Municipality is a beneficiary.
