Wenchi Divisional Commander of the Motor Traffic and Transport Department of the Ghana Police Service in Wenchi in the Bono Region, Mr Kofi Odro Amponsah said the Citizens have power to arrest.
The MTTD Commander who was speaking at a special joint service on the 3rd Quarter of 2019 13th Sabbath and Sabbath School Guest Day celebration at Wenchi West District of the Seventh Day Adventist on Saturday said a person who is not a police officer may, without warrant arrest another person if he or she believes on reasonable grounds that the other person is committing or has just committed an offence.
You should never make a citizen's arrest merely on suspicion a person is committing or has just committed an offence he said.
The suspect must have been under constant observation contact police immediately on 191 or 18555 DSP Kofi Odro Amponsah emphasized.
He also reminds organizers of public functions to notify the police not less than five days ahead in compliance with the Public Order ACT.
Mr. Odro Amponsah emphasized that any public activities such as installation of a chief, demonstrations, rallies and processions required the notification of the law enforcement agencies.
The Deputy Superintendent of Police who was speaking under the theme You and the Police said the police are not enemy to the citizen's.
