2020 polls: New women group chases 1.5m votes for NPP

A newly-created group affiliated to the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP), Women in Action, has launched an ambitious target of securing, at least, 1.5 million votes for the party in the upcoming general elections in 2020.

In an interview with Class91.3FM’s Blessed Sogah, the Chairperson for Women in Action, Mercy Amo-Darkoah, explained that the NPP deserves more votes in the next general elections so it can proceed with its development agenda, hence the decision to rally women within the party to play an active role in shoring up the party’s electoral fortunes by 1.5 million votes.

She further noted that the group does not intend to compete internally with other existing female associations but rather join forces to retain power for the NPP.

Ghana goes to the polls in December 2020.

In the 2016 polls, the NPP’s then-presidential candidate, Nana Akufo-Addo beat the incumbent, Mr John Mahama, with almost one million votes.
